Continental Steel (“Consteel”), in collaboration with its long-standing supplier, Siam Yamato Steel (“SYS”) of Thailand, successfully received accreditation from the Singapore Green Building Council (“SGBC”) for SYS’s steel products. Produced in EN10025-2 Grades S275JR, S275J0, S355JR, S355J0 and S355J2, SYS’s products achieved the highest possible rating of four ticks and is now listed as a certified product on the Singapore Green Building Product (“SGBP”) directory listing.
The SGBP Certification Scheme is a widely relied upon program by stakeholders in Singapore’s built environment that takes a holistic approach to sustainability. Building products are certified according to their performance across five areas of environmental and health impacts over the whole lifecycle of a product, from extraction or cultivation of raw materials through to end-of-use management.
SYS, a leading manufacturer of hot-rolled structural steel products like beams, channels, angles and sheet piles is an Electric Arc Furnace (“EAF”) steel producer that uses >95% of recycled steel scrap for its production. Having also recently received their Environmental Product Declaration (“EPD”) in accordance with ISO 10425 and ISO 21930: 2017, SYS’s products benefit customers and end users who are environmentally focused and who demonstrate a commitment to the environment.
While steel production is inevitably part of an energy intensive sector, the use of steel will continue to be a cornerstone to engineering and construction. Consteel is therefore pleased to make available steel that is produced with lower carbon emissions, as an option to customers and end users. With substantial inventories of SYS’s SGBP-certified products in Singapore, Consteel is ready to embark on this green journey with a trusted partner of more than three decades.
