Continental Steel is pleased to announce that it has started production of steel fibres (ConFibe®) in its facility in Singapore.
The use of steel fibres in Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete (“SFRC”) is widely adopted in Europe, US and Australia due to wide ranging benefits. Besides enhancing the mechanical properties of the concrete like improved tensile strength, ductility and crack control, the use of SFRC significantly improves construction efficiency through the reduction of labour, lesser use of construction material, as well as faster construction schedule.
The Singapore Standard SS 674:2021 Fibre Concrete – Design of fibre concrete structures in 2021 was published in 2021, closely followed by the launch of the Design Guide for Fibre-Reinforced Concrete Structures to Singapore Standard SS674:2021 in 2022. These milestones provided a structured framework for consultants, engineers and stakeholders to incorporate the use of SFRC in their projects.
Today, SFRC has been adopted extensively in the tunnel lining segments for numerous Land Transport Authority (“LTA”) projects like Downtown Line, Thomson-East Coast Line and Cross Island Line. It has also been used in the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (“DTSS”) and is suitable for a wide range of applications like industrial flooring, pavements and roads, airport runways, precast concrete elements, etc.
ConFibe® is produced according to EN14889-1:2006 and has received both Factory Production Control (“FPC”) and Environmental Product Declaration (“EPD”) certifications. Manufactured from scrap-based steel and processed in our solar powered facility, ConFibe® represents a highly sustainable product offering in today’s built environment.
Continental Steel looks forward to working closely with industry stakeholders for greater adoption of ConFibe® and SFRC in their projects. For enquiries, contact us at sales@consteel.com.sg
