Melvin received his Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Columbia University in the City of New York in 2002 where he was awarded the Jewell M. Garrelts Award for outstanding academic work. He then went on to receive his Master of Engineering in High Performance Structures from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2003.

Melvin forged his early career at Colony Capital, LLC, at its offices across New York, Taipei and Hong Kong.

Today, Melvin is the President of the Singapore Structural Steel Society, beginning his tenure in 2017. Prior to leading the Society, Melvin served as a Council Member of the Society for over 10 years, a testament to his steely commitment to the industry.
