Continental Steel is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, Boon Chang Structure Pte Ltd (“Boon Chang”), has successfully completed the fabrication, delivery and installation of structural steelworks at OPB.
Consisting of two sky bridges, a rooftop pergola and several linkways, Continental Steel supplied approximately 1,000mt of steel to Boon Chang for this iconic development. The two sky bridges connected the two towers on the 39th floor at a height of 143 metres above ground, with one bridge spanning 42 metres and the other spanning 27 metres, at a combined weight of almost 400mt.
The preparatory work required a twin model analysis on the sky bridges to study both the effects of bridges on the towers, as well as the induced forces on the bridges, caused by the movement of the towers. Due to the curvature of the bridge, the modelling and fabrication of the structure needed to be precise. They were fabricated in segments in Boon Chang’s Singapore facility before being transported to site, carefully assembled and lifted for installation.
Despite the challenging site conditions and having to account for dynamic wind loads during lifting and installation, the two bridges were each lifted within 24 hours and their installations were completed in one month.
Continental Steel and Boon Chang are pleased with the smooth execution and completion of OPB and look forward to participating in similar projects in the future.
